Here is some info about the business: A locally-owned brick-and-mortar record store, serving the Highlands and all of Kentuckiana, since 1979, making it one of the oldest black-owned record stores in the country.
From the first shop off Frankfort Ave. through the current incarnation at 921 Barret Ave. (i.e., Better Days East) and Lyle's Mall (Better Days West), Better Days Records have survived the changes to continue to provide you with the best costumer service and top-quality vinyl records and compact discs (new and used).
This page focuses on the ends and outs of our Better Days East location. As always, we work hard to be the best brick-and-mortar record store that we can be through our clean, organized selection, knowledgeable staff and continued guidance of Ben Jones.
In 1979, Marvin and Beverly Maxwell opened Mom’s Music on Frankfort Avenue. Marvin knew that music was an important and untapped market in this area. Mom’s started as a small retail store and sound contracting business with an emphasis on helping musicians and churches with their musical needs. Still a family owned business, Mom’s continues to be involved with many community organizations and events from feeding kids to MERF (Musicians Emergency Resource Foundation) to animal rights, cancer awareness and many others. Mom’s has also been involved in the creation of other benefits to the community from “Louisville Live” TV show, “Live at Mom’s” “Louisville’s Lost and Found” radio shows, as well as “B Real Music Program” and “Takin’ It to the Street” religious programs. Mom’s Music truly is “Where Louisville Does Music”.
Maxwell's House of Music is Southern Indiana's premier music retail and education facility. With 12,500 sq ft, two full performance halls, fourteen teaching studios, and a showroom full of the best equipment available, you're sure to find what you need. You will be drawn in by the personality of the store itself and its unique designs as well as the knowledge and friendliness of the world's best staff.
Sale, Service, Installations, and Education are just a part of the Maxwell's story. Community outreach through local school systems is just one way for us to give the gift of music back to our community. Providing service by donating to local school music and theater programs. We are also involved in numerous local and national charities and we are always looking for ways we can help. Our commitment is to our customer, and our goal is to create the most positive experience for musicians of any skill level.
At Maxwell's House of Music WE CREATE MUSICIANS! What are you waiting for?
Come play, be happy!
Kentucky Hot Brown Pedalboards was started in 2013 by owner and musician Kenny Marine and his Wife, Toni Marine. Kenny had been making his own pedalboards for years and after a vacation trip to Nashville, Tn interest was sparked to build them for other people. Kenny had seen a handmade pedalboard in a suitcase and thought “I can make that better and more affordable”. The idea was to make pedalboards for other guitar players with that handmade, rustic feel that were affordable, looked great, and were very functional.
“The Brown” which was a medium size pedalboard was born in 2013. We started selling our boards in December 2013. All pedalboards that followed would be modeled in some way from “The Brown” original model.
